Joomla User Group West Michigan PDF Print E-mail

About a month ago I met up with Dave Van Antverp from Creative Partners Inc. He had seen the site we built for Prime Insurance Service, and liked it alot. After having talked on the phone it became apparent that both of us were passionate about Joomla and realized that we could both gain from a strategic alliance of sorts.

Although we still need to further develop the Alliance, together with Dave Keizer, from Keizer Biz, we now have re-activated Joomla User Group West Michigan. It is our hope to meet 4 times the first year, and we plan on discussing good development practices, new exciting components, new directions from Joomla Core Team, and how can we utilize Joomla to help Michigan based businesses grow. If this is something that interests you please request to become a member of the Google Group - At this point there is no cost to this. We also shortly discussed planning a Joomla User Day Event, but more to come about this later on.

Joomla 1.0 EOL Announced PDF Print E-mail
joomlalogo.png
As you can read in this link , The Joomla.Org team has announced the End-Of-Life for Joomla 1.0. Here is an exerpt from this article:

But now it's time to say our farewells to our old friend Joomla 1.0. As of July 22, 2009, the Joomla 1.0.x series will no longer be supported. As a user, is it required that you upgrade from Joomla 1.0.x? Absolutely not since security upgrades will be supported until this date.

As you can read in the article, Joomla 1.0 will still be supported with security patches until July 22, 2009. If you have an old version of Joomla now would be a good time to make sure it is up to date, or maybe even consider if it is time to upgrade to 1.5. Upgrading wont neccesarily mean that you will have to "start all over" on your site. MMJ Technology has resources that can help you redevelop your current Joomla 1.0 template into a Joomla 1.5 and can help you with migrating over content as well as functionality. Contact us TODAY if you would like our assistance with either patching an old site or upgrading to the new.

Great Local Effort PDF Print E-mail

Cut your grocery bill in HALF !!!!

So every now and then I stumble upon a really great idea.... and say.. Why didnt I do that ? and I am sure you do as well. But I always feel a little better when I see that it is a local effort from a small business guy, and not just another "thing" from Corporate America.

Enter Savings Angel:

The story goes: A family in Michigan decides that they are tired of never really being able to get any real savings when it comes to their grocery budget. They seem to be able to cut a little everywhere else (except gas), but their grocery bill stays pretty consistent. So they go into thinktank, and comes up with the idea that if they match a good coupon with a good sale they must be able to save more. Now, how do you do that practically ? The husband, having a background in IT, automates the process by implementing it into a database. After having seen the model work for a while they decide that others can benefit from the same model, so they decide to make it available online, and the rest is, as they say, History...

So last month Michelle and I decided to join, and it really works. I continually asks Michelle if she feels it is working, and the answer is yes, it makes her use coupons she wouldnt have before. SavingsAngel.com isnt providing some magic formula to save money, but they provide a INVALUABLE tool to shop more effectively, allowing you to save money. She uses a fair amount of time preparing for her shopping trip, but it is well worth it.

Have a try !!
